[Verse 1]
I’m standin’ on the edge of leavin’ it all behind,
This little town’s been draggin’ me, time to unwind,
Got a choice to make, and it ain’t that tough,
I can get on the bus or pour a Grey Goose cup.

The Greyhound’s waitin’, but so’s the bar,
One takes me away, the other don’t go far,
So what’s it gonna be, what’s it gonna take?
I’m about to hit the road, or hit the whiskey straight.

[Chorus]
I’m about to get on a buzz and leave this town,
You wanna come with me, or just stick around?
It’s Greyhound vs Grey Goose, what’s it gonna be?
We can ride out sober, or we can drink to feel free.
You wanna take the long road or the shortcut down?
I’m about to get on a buzz and leave this town.

[Verse 2]
The wheels on that bus’ll turn through the night,
But a couple more shots, I’ll be feelin’ just right,
The highway’s open, or the bottle’s uncapped,
Either way, baby, I ain’t lookin’ back.

We can sit in those seats and roll past the lights,
Or toss back a glass and lose track of the night,
It’s a getaway plan, but which way’s the best?
One’s a sober ride, the other’s a drunken quest.

[Chorus
I’m about to get on a buzz and leave this town,
You wanna come with me, or just stick around?
It’s Greyhound vs Grey Goose, what’s it gonna be?
We can ride out sober, or we can drink to feel free.
You wanna take the long road or the shortcut down?
I’m about to get on a buzz and leave this town.

[Bridge]
It’s all the same, just different roads,
One gets you high, the other takes you slow.
The bus’ll roll on and take us away,
But the bottle’s a rocket that’ll fly today.

[Verse 3]
So what’s your pick, are you packin’ a bag,
Or grabbin’ a shot glass with a crooked flag?
We can hit the highway or stay in the bar,
Either way, darlin’, we’re goin’ far.

[Outro]
So, come on now, the clock’s tickin’ fast,
Whether it’s a bottle or the bus, let’s make this last.
I’m about to get on a buzz and leave this place,
You wanna come with me, or stay in the same space?

“Buzz or Bus to Leave This Town” (1981)

By Alan Nafzger

I stood on the edge of this dusty old place,
Where the tumbleweed rolls and time has no grace,
One foot in the bar, the other near the Greyhound,
Decidin’ my way out, or how to stick around.

The bar calls my name with its whiskey and fire,
The jukebox hums low, playin’ tunes of desire,
But just down the road, that bus stands still,
Promisin’ freedom over the next distant hill.

Buzz or bus? That’s the call tonight,
One’ll take me high, the other out of sight.
I can pour another drink or pack up and ride,
But one way or another, I’ll leave this town behind.

That neon sign flickers like a star in the dust,
The old bartender nods, sayin’, “Stay if you must,”
But my boots itch to walk, and my heart feels torn,
Between the bottle’s warmth and the road at dawn.

The bar is warm, with faces I know,
But the bus hums softly, ready to go.
There’s a choice in the air, thick as smoke and sin,
Do I dive deeper here, or let the road begin?

Buzz or bus? Which way’s the best?
One’ll numb the pain, the other’s a test.
Should I drown in the booze or trust in the ride?
Either way, this cowboy’s got somethin’ to hide.

So I sip from the bottle, but my mind starts to roam,
Down the highway’s line, far from this home,
The bar is a trap, but it feels like a friend,
While the bus promises a place where the horizon won’t end.

It’s a battle in my gut, between stayin’ or goin’,
But I reckon deep down which way the wind’s blowin’.
So I’ll finish this drink, then decide my fate,
Whether I’ll ride the buzz or hop on outta this gate.

Buzz or bus, it’s all the same,
One’s a slow burn, the other’s a flame.
I can sit here and stay or ride out alone,
But one way or another, I’ll be long gone.
