I Fixed the Farm, But It Came Undone – Music and Lyrics by Alan Nafzger

Verse 1:
I fixed the fence, mended the gate,
Worked through the night, stayed up late.
I patched the roof, got the tractor to run,
But none of it mattered when we came undone.
I thought I could hold it all together tight,
But when love falls apart, nothing goes right.

Chorus:
I fixed the farm, but it came undone,
Worked these hands ‘til the day was done.
Thought I could save the land, make it shine in the sun,
But it all fell apart when we came undone.
The crops are still standin’, the cows are fed,
But this empty house feels colder than dead.

Verse 2:
I tilled the soil, planted the seeds,
Hoped that the harvest would fill all our needs.
I prayed for rain, and I got my share,
But now it’s lonely with no one to care.
I hammered each nail, fought the rust and the grime,
But without you beside me, I’m just wastin’ time.

Chorus:
I fixed the farm, but it came undone,
Worked these hands ‘til the day was done.
Thought I could save the land, make it shine in the sun,
But it all fell apart when we came undone.
The crops are still standin’, the cows are fed,
But this empty house feels colder than dead.

Bridge:
The barn’s still standin’, the fields still grow,
But the love we planted ain’t here no more.
No matter how hard I worked the land,
I couldn’t hold on to what we planned.

Chorus:
I fixed the farm, but it came undone,
Worked these hands ‘til the day was done.
Thought I could save the land, make it shine in the sun,
But it all fell apart when we came undone.
The crops are still standin’, the cows are fed,
But this empty house feels colder than dead.

Outro:
So here I am with fields that grow,
But without you, it don’t feel like home.
I fixed the farm, but it came undone,
When we came undone, and the love was gone.

I Fixed the Farm -- A melancholic illustration of a farmer sitting alone on the porch of a farmhouse. The farmer gazes out at the well-maintained fields and barn, with a 2.

I Fixed the Farm, But It Came Undone

by Alan Nafzger (2012)

I fixed the fence and mended the gate,
Worked through the night, stayed up late.
I patched the roof and got the tractor to hum,
But none of it mattered when we came undone.
Thought I could hold it all together, make it right,
But love fell apart, vanished from sight.

I fixed the farm, worked these hands raw,
But this empty house is all I saw.
The crops are standing, cows are fed,
Yet this place feels empty, cold, and dead.

I tilled the soil, planted seeds with care,
Prayed for rain, it came, but you weren’t there.
I hammered each nail, fought rust and grime,
But without you beside me, I’m just wasting time.

The barn stands tall, fields still grow,
But the love we planted has ceased to show.
No matter how hard I worked the land,
I couldn’t hold on to what we planned.

So here I stand with fields that grow,
But without you, it don’t feel like home.
I fixed the farm, but it all came undone,
When we fell apart, and the love was gone.

I Fixed the Farm -- A poignant illustration of a farmer standing in front of a broken fence and an open gate. The farmer looks weary and reflective, holding a hammer in h1.
I Fixed the Farm — I couldn’t hold on to what we planned.
