Verse 1:
Dear God, you’re sending the rain, it’s gonna come down,
The clouds are rollin’ in, gonna drench this ground.
But I’m standin’ here with a rusty ol’ key,
This tractor won’t budge, it’s just starin’ at me.
I got fields to plow, hay to bale,
But right now, Lord, I’m destined to fail.
So if you’re listenin’, up there in the sky,
Please help me out before this field is a lake!

Chorus:
Dear God, you’re sending the rain, I’m beggin’ from the heart,
I really, really need this ol’ tractor to start.
I’ve pulled every lever, checked every part,
Now it’s just you and me, can I get a jumpstart?
I’m prayin’ for a miracle, right here before it’s mud,
Before this farm gets drowned in a Texas flood.
So dear God, you’re sending the rain, and I’m doin’ my part,
But Lord, please help me get this tractor to start!

Verse 2:
I’ve kicked the tires, and I’ve hit the hood,
Tried every trick that I thought I could.
Checked the oil, checked the spark,
But all I hear is silence, not even a bark.
The cows are watchin’, the chickens don’t care,
And I’m standin’ in this puddle, pullin’ out my hair.
So, dear God, I know you’re busy up there,
But if this ol’ girl could start, she’ll see a repair!

Chorus:
Dear God, you’re sending the rain, I’m beggin’ from the heart,
I really, really need this ol’ tractor to start.
I’ve pulled every lever, checked every part,
Now it’s just you and me, can ya give it a jumpstart?
I’m prayin’ for a miracle, right here in the mud,
Before this farm gets drowned in a Texas flood.
So dear God, you’re sending the rain, and I’m doin’ my part,
But Lord, please help me get this tractor to start!

Bridge:
I know you’ve got plans, way bigger than me,
But this ol’ tractor’s my lifeline, can’t you see?
The crops are waitin’, and the rain’s comin’ down,
If this tractor don’t start, I might just drown!

Verse 3:
Then I turned the key, gave it one more go,
And Lord, if it didn’t, I’d be stuck in mud.
But just as the raindrops hit the ground,
That engine roared with a mighty sound.
I laughed out loud, threw my hat in the air,
“Thank you, God, for answering my prayer!”
Now I’m rollin’ through the field, getting it done,
With this ol’ tractor hummin’ like a summer breeze!

Chorus:
Dear God, you sent the rain, and I’m workin’ from the heart,
Thanks to you, I got this ol’ tractor to start.
I pulled every lever, checked every part,
But it was your hand that gave it a spark.
I’m thankful for the miracle, right here in the mud,
Now I’m plowin’ through fields before the flood.
So dear God, you sent the rain, and I’m doin’ my part,
Thanks for helpin’ me get this ol’ tractor to start!

Outro:
So next time, Lord, when the clouds roll in,
I’ll be ready to work, thanks to you again.
With your help, this farm won’t fall apart,
And I’ll keep on prayin’ to get that ol’ tractor to start!

Dear God, You’re Sending the Rain (And I Need This Tractor to Start)

by Alan Nafzger (2001)

Dear God, you’re sending the rain, and it’s comin’ down fast,
Clouds are rollin’ in, this dry spell won’t last.
I’m here with a rusty key in my hand,
This ol’ tractor’s stubborn, like a mule that won’t stand.
Fields need plowin’, hay needs to be baled,
But right now, Lord, I’m feelin’ I’ve failed.
If you’re listenin’ up there in the sky so high,
Help me get this engine goin’ before the field runs dry.

Dear God, you’re sendin’ the rain, I’m askin’ from the heart,
Really need this ol’ tractor to give me a start.
Pulled every lever, checked every bolt and part,
Now it’s up to you, let’s give it a jumpstart.
Prayin’ for a miracle here in the mud,
Before this farm gets drowned in a Texas flood.
Dear God, you’re sendin’ the rain, I’m doin’ my part,
But Lord, please help me get this tractor to start!

Kicked the tires, cursed the ol’ hood,
Tried every trick, did all I could.
Checked the oil, and the spark plug too,
But silence is all that came through.
The cows are watchin’, chickens just peckin’ around,
And I’m standin’ in this puddle, feelin’ like a clown.
Dear God, I know you’re busy, but I’m stranded here,
If this ol’ girl starts, I’d fix it all, I swear!

I know you’ve got plans, way bigger than me,
But this ol’ tractor’s my lifeline, can’t you see?
The crops are waitin’, and the rain’s comin’ down,
If this tractor don’t start, I might just drown!

Turned the key, gave it one last chance,
And Lord, you answered with a powerful stance.
Just as the raindrops began to pour,
That engine roared, couldn’t ask for more.
Laughed out loud, threw my hat to the air,
“Thank you, God, for hearin’ my prayer!”
Now I’m rollin’ through the fields, mud flyin’ high,
With this ol’ tractor hummin’ under the sky.

Dear God, you sent the rain, and I’m workin’ from the heart,
Thanks to you, I got this ol’ tractor to start.
Pulled every lever, checked every part,
But it was your hand that gave it a spark.
Thankful for the miracle here in the mud,
Now I’m plowin’ through the fields before the flood.
Dear God, you sent the rain, I’m doin’ my part,
Thanks for helpin’ me get this ol’ tractor to start!

Next time, Lord, when the clouds roll in,
I’ll be ready to work, thanks to you again.
With your help, this farm won’t fall apart,
And I’ll keep on prayin’ to get that ol’ tractor to start!
