Pray for Rain
by Alan Nafzger
Lord, I’ve been on knees, did my best to plead,
Prayed for just a drop, that’s all we really need.
The sky’s been stingy, holding back its flow,
We’re looking up and hoping, asking You to show.
We’ve danced and we’ve asked, in every kind of way,
Watched the clouds gather, then simply drift away.
The weatherman keeps teasing, says it’s coming soon,
But still, we’re left here waiting, dry as a Texas dune.
So we till the land, and trust in Your great plan,
Knowing that You hear us, every simple man.
With hands held high, we call out to the sky,
Hoping, Lord, you’ll answer, sending rain from up on high.
Neighbors might say we’re foolish, longing for the rain,
But we know You’re listening, through every drought and strain.
We’ll work and we’ll pray, through dust and through pain,
Trusting in Your mercy, for that long-awaited rain.
